When Wiping Your Criminal Record Clean Is An Option

If your record is tainted by a criminal charge, your employment, education, housing and even volunteer opportunities may be damaged. Expungement is a process that allows you to legally seal or remove charges from your criminal record in certain circumstances. While expungement has been rare in Minnesota, Jeffrey B. Ring & Associates helps qualified clients pursue a clean record.

Minnesota expungement laws have recently changed, and many criminal record blemishes are more easily expunged than in the past.

I am experienced with the expungement process. I can assist you in applying, make arguments to support clearing your record and help you move forward with your future opportunities.

Sensitive Files Are Open To The Public

Criminal records are kept, forever, in courts, police departments and human services agencies. You may be able to seal your record in a case that concluded in your favor — you were found not guilty, the government dismissed the case or you successfully completed a pretrial diversion program. You may also expunge records of cases that did not end in your favor, such as a conviction or guilty plea, though such expungements are much more difficult to obtain. You should know that serious crimes are never eliminated.

To obtain an expungement, you must complete paperwork and convince a judge that your right to a clean record is more important than the public's right to access that record. Generally, you must demonstrate that your professional license or work was affected by the record, you have rehabilitated yourself and sealing the record will not harm public safety.

Expungements must be handled within a specific time frame. Once you apply, the process takes about four months. In most cases, a hearing before a judge is required.

I Am here To Help

The good news is that you do not have to handle the paperwork and court appearance on your own. Jeffrey B. Ring & Associates is dedicated to protecting the rights of our clients. I am sympathetic to the needs of our clients and their families for a clear criminal record.

I have particular experience handling record sealing and expungements for youthful offenders. For many young people, drug offenses and other crimes can seriously affect their ability to go to college, get a job or participate in school activities.

I can also help get you out of trouble when you are accused of violating your probation or parole.
